Yaounde hosts the 50th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC: Issues and Challenges of International Cooperation

Yaounde (una) – The city of Yaounde in Cameroon recently hosted the 50th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Under the theme “Developing Transport and Communication Infrastructure: A Key Tool in the Fight against Poverty and Insecurity”, this major event brought together dignitaries and senior officials from OIC Member States to discuss challenges and opportunities in the field of transport and communication.

Opening the session, Cameroonian Prime Minister Joseph Deol Ngoti underlined his country’s commitment to the OIC and reaffirmed his support for the organization. He also highlighted the Palestinian issue, advocating for the implementation of a two-state solution and condemning the continued aggressions of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cameroon, Mr. Lugen Mbila Mbila, chaired the session and warmly welcomed the participants, stressing the importance of transport and infrastructure development in combating poverty and insecurity. He also highlighted the current challenges related to violence in Palestine and called for concerted action to ensure peace and security in the region.

The Secretary General of the OIC, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, commended the Cameroonian authorities for their support and commitment to the organization. He highlighted the efforts made by the OIC to confront the Israeli aggressions in Palestine and to defend the rights of the Palestinian people. He also referred to the initiatives in Afghanistan aimed at promoting girls’ education and women’s empowerment, stressing the importance of dialogue and international cooperation to resolve these issues.

Finally, Taha reaffirmed the OIC’s unwavering support for the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan and welcomed the peaceful resolution of the conflict with Armenia. He stressed the importance of protecting the rights of displaced populations and fostering reconciliation between the two countries.

This 50th Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers provided an opportunity for the members of the organization to strengthen their collaboration and reaffirm their commitment to peace, security and development in the region. It also highlighted the persistent challenges faced by member countries and stressed the importance of collective action to address them.
