A spectacular scene took place on the RN1 national road, near Mbuji-Mayi in Congo, where a TRANSCO company bus unintentionally plunged into a canal. This incident, which occurred about 50 kilometers west of Mbuji-Mayi, aroused fear and emotion among the passengers, although miraculously none of them were injured.
The story of one of the passengers, Miss Grâce Lusamba Kayembe, highlights the critical moments experienced during this chaotic journey. As the bus was entering the road, it inexplicably stopped before starting an unexpected reverse. Fortunately, fate would have it that the vehicle ended up in the canal, thus allowing all the passengers to escape from this delicate situation unharmed.
The survivors had to walk nearly a kilometer to reach the town of Lukalaba, where the bus finally reached them after 10 p.m. This mishap could have been dramatic, but luck played in favor of the travelers, saving them from any physical harm.
Local authorities, such as the commander of the traffic police in Kasai Oriental, Felix Mukuna Kayembe, were concerned by this accident. Although he was not informed of this particular event, he acknowledges that the Tshangola climb, known for being dangerous, is often the scene of accidents.
It should be noted that the bus involved in this incident came from the railway town of Mwene-Ditu, and that this is the second incident of this type, without any loss of life, since the Mbujimayi-Mwene-Ditu line has been in service for two years.
This episode once again reminds us of the challenges faced by travelers on Congolese roads, emphasizing the importance of caution and respect for safety rules.
