Road infrastructure development: a catalyst for progress for local communities

The governor’s infrastructure development project in the area has garnered admiration from residents who expressed their appreciation during a tour organised by the Recover Nigeria Project, a civil society organisation in Akwa. During the tour, residents witnessed the progress made, including the construction of roads such as the 23km Amansea-Awa-Ndiukwuenu-Ufuma, the redevelopment of Ekwueme Square, as well as the proposed construction of the 26km Amansea-Ebenebe-Ugbenu-Ugbene-Awba-Ofemili road.

Residents expressed appreciation for the new road infrastructure which has made it easier for farmers to travel, especially, while also highlighting their communities. Ambrose Nweke, a native of Awba-Ofemili community, expressed gratitude for the improved road conditions which have made it easier for farmers to transport their produce to market. Michael Okagbue, a farmer, was happy to see traders going directly to the farms to buy produce, thanks to the easy access to the roads.

Chinedu Oraekie, former Secretary General of Awba-Ofemili Community, noted the growing attraction of investors and real estate agents to the community since the asphalting of the road, leading to increased land values ​​and increased economic activity. Joy Akachukwu, from Ugbenu Community, highlighted the improved access to health services as a result of the construction of the road.

These infrastructure projects have not only improved connectivity in the area, but have also fostered social and economic development in local communities.
