The turning point in the fight against corruption in the Democratic Republic of Congo

The fight against corruption and for transparency in the Democratic Republic of Congo is taking a major turn with the proposed law on access to information which is currently being discussed in the National Assembly. This proposal, supported by civil society actors such as Henri Longendja from Collectif 24, aims to establish a new regulatory framework to guarantee easy and rapid access to data recorded by public services.

Access to information constitutes a powerful instrument in the fight against corruption, allowing citizens to monitor the actions of public institutions and alert in the event of embezzlement. By making accountability mandatory, this law will encourage those in power to act more transparently and responsibly.

Alongside this legislative initiative, Collectif 24 announces the implementation of an innovative application dedicated to the fight against corruption. This application, developed in collaboration with public services in the finance, education and public procurement sectors, will aim to detect possible irregularities and fraud, thanks to an integrated alert system.

Concretely, the application proposed by Collective 24 will be based on a system of three color tables: red to report serious misconduct, orange for minor irregularities and green for practices consistent with ethical standards. This system will allow precise monitoring of public expenditure and will help to strengthen transparency in the management of public funds.

By integrating the principles of digital technology and the right of access to information, this application represents a major step forward in the fight against corruption in the DRC. It will provide citizens and authorities with effective tools to prevent and punish wrongdoing.

Ultimately, the adoption of the access to information law and the implementation of this application will mark a new era for public governance in the DRC, by promoting transparency, accountability and the fight against corruption.
