Internal Tensions Shake the UDPS: A Look Back at the Clash at the People’s Palace

The clash between UDPS activists at the People’s Palace in Kinshasa reveals the internal tensions within the party. This fight between Augustin Kabuya’s supporters and Gecko Beya’s defenders resulted in many injuries and significant material damage. This unfortunate situation highlights the rivalries and power struggles currently shaking the UDPS.

According to witnesses present at the scene, this altercation broke out during the filing of Idrissa Afani Mangala’s candidacy for the presidency of the Senate office. Kabuya’s supporters tried to assert themselves by supporting a candidate who was not necessarily everyone’s choice. This internal struggle is indicative of the rivalries and differences that are undermining the party.

On the one hand, the pro-Kabuja supporters seem to want to defend their interests and assert their position within the UDPS. On the other hand, Gecko Beya’s supporters denounce Kabuya’s lack of legitimacy to make decisions that commit the party. This power struggle could further weaken the unity and cohesion within the UDPS.

It is essential that party leaders take measures to ease tensions and restore trust between the different camps. Personal interests must not prevail over the general interest of the party and its members. It is crucial to promote dialogue and compromise to prevent such situations from recurring in the future.

Ultimately, this fight at the Palais du Peuple is a testament to the challenges facing the UDPS. It is time for the different factions to demonstrate unity and solidarity to meet the challenges that lie ahead. Only a united party will be able to face the political and social challenges that await the DRC.
