Fatshimetrie: A Renewed Commitment to Security and Cooperation in Africa

Kinshasa, 26 July 2024 – The 18th General Assembly of the Defence Force Inspectors of the Southern African Development Community (DIWG-SADC) concluded on a note of strengthened commitment to promoting security and cooperation in Africa. Under the leadership of the new Chairman of the SADC Inspectors Working Group, Army General Gabriel Amisi Kumba, the meeting was an opportunity to highlight the importance of training trainers in the field of defence force monitoring.

The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo has reaffirmed its unwavering support for this mission in order to achieve the objectives set in terms of security and conflict prevention. The Deputy Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Samy Adubango Awoto, stressed the importance of regional cooperation to ensure stability in the region. He also called for swift action on the ground, particularly in Goma, to strengthen the operationality of the defence forces.

General Amisi Kumba expressed his gratitude to the Head of State Félix Tshisekedi and his government for successfully hosting this 18th General Assembly, marking a new chapter in regional collaboration. He assured his fellow inspectors of his commitment to carry out his duties with honour, dignity and transparency, in the interest of all SADC members.

The outgoing Chairperson, Brigadier General Mundia, commended the spirit of collaboration and exchange that marked these meetings, highlighting the passion and dedication of the working team. He expressed confidence in the future and in the ability of the working group to make great strides for peace and security in Southern Africa.

In short, the 18th General Assembly of SADC Inspectors in Kinshasa served to strengthen the ties of cooperation and solidarity between member countries, with the aim of ensuring peace and security in the region.
