A Major Step Forward for Nigerian Workers: Towards the Officialization of a Minimum Wage of ₦70,000

A new era dawns for Nigerian workers as a proposed law to formalize the ₦70,000 minimum wage recently agreed upon by organized labor, the private sector and the federal government after lengthy negotiations is set to take place. be discussed in Parliament. Presented by President Tinubu in a letter read in the House on Tuesday, July 23, the measure seeks to establish a legal framework for the implementation of the new national minimum wage.

The President urged lawmakers to expedite the process of passing this law to enable immediate implementation for the benefit of Nigerian workers. Meanwhile, another presidential letter called for an amendment to the Nigeria Police Act, in accordance with Section 58 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
