On this day marked by the challenges of peace and sustainable development, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry underlined Egypt’s commitment to be actively involved in mediation efforts for the resolution of conflicts, while encouraging initiatives aimed at stability and development.
In a speech delivered during the inaugural session of the fourth edition of the Aswan Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development, which kicked off in Cairo on the same day, the minister affirmed that Egypt, as a peacemaking nation, is willing to play an active role in mediation and conflict resolution efforts, as well as contribute to the promotion of stability and development by actively participating in peacekeeping forces and providing training to African executives in various fields.
Sameh Shoukry highlighted Egypt’s role as leader on the Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development (PCRD) file and as chairman of the Steering Committee of Heads of State and Government of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD). He stressed that this forum comes at a critical time when the world and the African continent are facing major challenges, such as geopolitical tensions, global economic difficulties and an international community shaken by unprecedented exacerbated conflicts, whether in Gaza or Sudan.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs insisted on the importance of developing a global vision to face the challenges of peace, security and development in Africa. He stressed that this event is a continuation of Egyptian efforts aimed at defending the interests of the African continent, noting that this year marks the anniversary of the first summit of the Organization of African Unity in 1964, organized in Addis -Abeba by Egypt.
In conclusion, Sameh Shoukry reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to continue playing an active role in promoting peace and development in Africa, stressing that the stability and progress of the continent are key priorities for the Egyptian government. .
