Fatshimetrie: The Apostolic Nuncio Monsignor Mitja Leskovar presents his credentials to Félix Tshisekedi
Last Thursday, the protocol scene took place at the Palais de la Nation in Kinshasa where President Félix Tshisekedi received in audience Monsignor Mitja Leskovar, the brand new Apostolic Nuncio to the Democratic Republic of Congo. The hour was solemn, full of symbolism and tradition. In a gesture marked by respect and solemnity, Monsignor Leskovar presented his letters of credence to the Congolese Head of State, thus marking the beginning of a new diplomatic mission in the service of the Holy See.
Originally from Slovenia, Monsignor Mitja Leskovar, born in 1970 in Kranj, brings with him a very rich spiritual and cultural background. His appointment as Apostolic Nuncio in the Democratic Republic of Congo represents for him a new chapter in his ecclesiastical career. Having previously served in Iraq, Monsignor Leskovar brings his experience and dedication to the service of peace and Vatican diplomacy.
In a gesture marked by humility and prayer, Monsignor Leskovar inscribed in the guestbook of the Palais de la Nation a prayer for the prosperity and well-being of the DRC, its leaders and its people. This sincere approach demonstrates its commitment to working for interreligious dialogue and the promotion of Christian values in a context marked by various socio-political issues.
Furthermore, during this same protocol ceremony, President Tshisekedi also received the letters of credence of Mr. David Sigauke, new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Zimbabwe in the DRC. A retired General, Mr. Sigauke has a long military career behind him, marked by his commitment to security and regional stability.
The presence of these two high-ranking diplomats at the Presidency of the Republic demonstrates the importance of bilateral relations and international cooperation for the DRC. Indeed, paragraph 2 of article 88 of the constitution underlines the crucial role of foreign ambassadors in establishing solid and lasting diplomatic ties with the country.
