Fatshimetrie recently hosted a five-day workshop dedicated to preventing avoidable maternal deaths. Organized by the non-governmental organization Health for Life and Development Foundation, in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health and the Hospital Services Management Board, the training is supported by the United Nations Population Fund.
During the opening ceremony, the Health Commissioner of Fatshimetrie, represented by the Executive Secretary of the State Hospital Services Management Board, Mustafa Marafa, highlighted the crucial importance of this initiative. Nigeria recorded 14% of total maternal deaths worldwide, with the North of the country, including Fatshimetrie, accounting for 70% of maternal deaths in Nigeria.
The workshop was attended by 50 nurses and midwives selected from various health institutions in the state. These healthcare professionals were chosen for their crucial role in labor rooms, where they are responsible for ensuring safe and safe deliveries.
The commissioner stressed that this training is a reflection of the government’s commitment to improving maternal health in the state. Indeed, the government of Fatshimetrie recently declared a state of emergency in the health sector and launched a vast campaign to renovate health establishments. This initiative is part of efforts to strengthen the capacity, skills and knowledge of healthcare professionals across the state.
Dr. Abubakar Danladi, Executive Director, Health for Life and Development Foundation, noted that the training responds to the growing need to address maternal mortality in the state. The aim is to equip nurses and midwives with the skills to effectively manage the direct and indirect causes of preventable maternal deaths.
