Fatshimetrie: the tragedy of a Muzalendo killed by his own comrade
In the heart of the lush mountains of Bunyakiri, in the province of South Kivu, a day that should have been ordinary took a tragic turn on the evening of June 22, 2024. A Muzalendo from the Mwenye Asili group lost his life, shot by his own comrade in arms. As they attempted to arrest grilled meat sellers, the situation escalated into an unthinkable act of violence.
According to civil society reports, the incident took place in the early evening, when ten armed Wazalendo elements from Bulambika undertook a muscular operation. But what should have been a simple arrest quickly turned into a tragedy. An argument broke out with a group of young people, and in a rash gesture, one of the members of the Wazalendo fired, fatally hitting his own colleague Muzalendo. The manager of the premises, a certain Mr. Bidole, alias Dingo, was also shot and rushed to Bunyakiri general hospital.
Disturbance and indignation gripped the local population in the face of such an act of violence. The leader of the Wazalendo group from Bulambika, as they left Mwenye Asili, shocked more by looting several goats belonging to the inhabitants of the region. This escalation of violence and brutality was harshly condemned by the national deputy Didier Kitumaini, elected from Bunyakiri, who calls for exemplary measures against the culprits.
The need for educational trials against gunmen involved in such incidents is highlighted by civil society organizations. It is imperative to prosecute and punish the acts of violence perpetrated, in order to restore peace and security in the region.
