Kinshasa, June 19, 2024 – In an exemplary gesture full of solidarity, the First Lady of Congo recently made a notable visit to the SS Anemia Mixed Medicine Center, located in the heart of the city of Kinshasa. The occasion was ideal, as the entire world celebrated World Sickle Cell Day, to highlight the paramount importance of awareness and management of chronic diseases such as this.
It is with particular attention that the distinguished First Lady Denise NYAKERU TSHISEKEDI chose to support sickle cell patients by going to the recently renovated medical center, thanks to her charitable action. Indeed, after nearly a year of rehabilitation and construction work, the SS Anemia Mixed Medicine Center has seen its infrastructure completely redesigned to offer patients optimal care conditions.
From pediatrics to internal medicine and emergency services, the President of the DNT Foundation visited the different departments of this renovated and equipped hospital, ensuring the proper functioning and quality of the care provided. Her warm and comforting presence among the patients was greeted with gratitude by them, thus showing recognition to the one who was committed alongside them in the fight against sickle cell anemia.
Efforts to modernize the SS Anemia Mixed Medicine Center are not limited to a simple renovation of the premises. Indeed, the introduction of new services such as imaging, scanner, radiology, mammography, or even ECG, demonstrates a desire to improve the quality of care provided to patients. In addition, the reception capacity of the establishment was significantly increased, from 56 beds to 120, in order to respond more effectively to the growing needs of the population.
The inauguration and handover under the management of the Physician Director General of the SS Anemia Mixed Medicine Center in March 2024 marks a major turning point in the fight against sickle cell disease in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Thanks to the commitment and generosity of personalities such as First Lady Denise NYAKERU TSHISEKEDI, the hope of quality care for sickle cell patients is gradually becoming a reality, thus offering a more serene future to those who fight this disease on a daily basis.
