Wage injustice in the DRC: the case of agents deactivated without procedure raised by SYECO

The case of DINACOPE agents deactivated without disciplinary procedure echoes a worrying reality for many civil servants in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In the Kwilu 2 educational province, in the territory of Masimanimba, 145 agents have found themselves deprived of their remuneration for three years, without having been the subject of a legal and transparent procedure.

The Congo Teachers’ Union (SYECO) in this region publicly expressed its concern and indignation at this manifest situation of injustice. According to Apollinaire Kilesila, secretary of SYECO, these agents were deactivated from the payroll without any legal basis, even though they continued to perform their functions in an exemplary manner. This is a flagrant violation of their rights and an attack on their professional dignity.

The union’s pressing demand is clear: the immediate reactivation of the salaries of these dedicated workers. Apollinaire Kilesila calls on the Minister of National Education and the integrity of the President of the Republic so that justice is done to these injured agents. They deserve not only to have their rights restored, but also to have their commitment and dedication recognized and respected.

This case highlights the flaws in the administrative and financial system in place in the education sector in the DRC, where public officials can be deprived of their income without any form of procedure or valid justification. It is imperative that measures are taken to ensure transparency, fairness and respect for the rights of all workers, especially those who work daily for the education and well-being of future generations.

At this time when education is more essential than ever for the development and future of the Congolese nation, it is unacceptable for teachers and civil servants to be treated in this way. Dignity at work and respect for fundamental rights must be non-negotiable, and any form of discrimination, injustice or arbitrariness must be firmly condemned.

It is time for the authorities to take their responsibilities and act in favor of the rehabilitation and reintegration of DINACOPE agents from Kwilu 2. The commitment, competence and loyalty of these workers deserve to be recognized and valued, as a concrete manifestation of social justice and respect for human dignity in the world of work. The time has come to rectify this unjust wrong and restore fairness and justice for all.
