“Fatshimetrie: Investiture of governors and vice-governors of the DRC for the new political era”
June 19, 2024 will be remembered as an important day for the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was in fact on this day that the long-awaited investiture ceremony of the governors and vice-governors elected during the elections of the previous April 29 was held. Under the aegis of the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Interior and Security, Jacquemin Shabani, this symbolic event took place in the Territoriale building, near the Congolese parliament.
In a solemn atmosphere marked by protocol, the governor of the city of Kinshasa, Daniel Bumba Lubaki, accompanied by his deputy Eddy Iyeli Molangi, received their notification letters, thus formalizing their assumption of office. This formal step marks the beginning of a new political era for these local officials, called to work for the development and well-being of the citizens of their respective provinces.
Beyond the simple delivery of notifications, this day was marked by constructive exchanges aimed at strengthening the capacities of newly inaugurated governors. Discussion panels thus addressed essential subjects such as the administrative and territorial organization of the DRC, interprovincial cooperation, decentralization, or even conflict management and the digitization of provincial revenues. These crucial themes illustrate the diversity and complexity of the issues that provincial authorities will have to face in the exercise of their functions.
In parallel with this official ceremony, emphasis was placed on the ethics and professional conduct of governors, emphasizing the importance of integrity and transparency in the exercise of power. These essential values are inseparable from responsible governance that respects the interests of local populations.
As the country enters a new phase in its political history, marked by the election of these governors and vice-governors, the hopes and expectations of citizens are high. These new local officials will have the mission of promoting the economic, social and cultural development of their provinces, while ensuring respect for fundamental rights and the consolidation of democratic institutions.
Ultimately, the inauguration of the governors and vice-governors of the DRC on this solemn day opens the way to a new era of responsibility and commitment in the service of the common good. Through constructive exchanges and shared values, these provincial authorities are called upon to address the challenges that face them, with a concern for integrity, transparency and respect for the aspirations of the Congolese population.”
