“Abibatu Mogaji, the Opera” is a play written by renowned playwright, Professor Ahmed Yerima, and produced by Ola Awakan. This work highlights the remarkable story of Mogaji, a business tycoon and the Ìyál’ọ́jà of Lagos, who weathered all storms to become a successful businesswoman and raise a child who today became the President of the Nigeria.

Born on October 16, 1916 and died on June 15, 2013, Abibatu Mogaji left an indelible legacy through her exceptional journey. Her story still resonates today, and her strength and determination continue to inspire entire generations.

During a courtesy visit, Ola Awakan received the approval of Tinubu, who said he was delighted to see his grandmother immortalized through the arts. He pledged to support this project and collaborate on any initiative aimed at national development.

The special performance of this theater production will take place on July 9 at the New Reception Room of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in the presence of President Tinubu as the guest of honour. This collaboration between the President and Awakan speaks to the importance of celebrating the courage and determination of women, highlighting the challenges, joys, struggles and successes of Mama Mogaji.

This project also aims to highlight the benefits of political mentoring, showing how the influence and guidance of strong mother figures can help shape leaders and drive positive change in society. “Abibatu Mogaji, the Opera” thus offers a unique opportunity to celebrate the resilience and power of femininity, while inspiring future generations to follow in the footsteps of this exceptional woman.
