The announcement of the massive reduction of positions within the CONECDA Youth Wing sparked considerable controversy and raised questions about the legitimacy and justification of this decision. Mr. Paul Dekete, North-Central Sector Coordinator of the CONECDA Youth Wing, expressed displeasure at the manner in which the affected workers, mainly directors, assistant directors and assistant directors, were dismissed, saying that the process violated the procedure established by the bank.
According to Dekete, this measure will have a major impact on the functioning of critical departments within the central bank, with 16 departments being affected by this action. Stressing that the individuals concerned had considerable experience and expertise in their respective fields, he highlighted the importance of these employees in moving the leading financial institution forward.
The coordinator called for an investigation by the National Congress into the Central Bank to understand the logic behind this massive dismissal and the criteria used. He also requested that CONECDA follow established procedures for workforce reduction as outlined in its human resources manual, and comply with global best practices.
He advocated for the insensitive termination letters to be removed and replaced with more appropriate documentation reflecting employees’ employment records. Dekete also urged lawmakers to ensure that employees fired without valid justification are reinstated.
This situation raises questions about the management of human resources within the central bank and highlights the importance of respecting workers’ rights, as well as established procedures for dismissals. The role of CONECDA in this matter and the need for increased transparency in human resources management are major elements that will need to be closely examined by the competent authorities.
