Controversy over allegations of embezzlement at the Tshopo Provincial Assembly

On this Wednesday, June 5, the Provincial Assembly of Tshopo found itself at the center of a controversy concerning allegations of embezzlement. The president of the deliberative body, Mateus Kanga Londimo, has publicly rejected these accusations against him, stating that there is no basis behind these claims.

Speaking to the press, Mateus Kanga Londimo affirmed that the rumors reporting an embezzlement of fourteen billion Congolese francs were unfounded and spread by individuals with ill intentions. He underlined the desire of these detractors to tarnish the image of the new legislature and to sow division within the Provincial Assembly.

The virality of a video accusing the president of the Provincial Assembly of Tshopo caused a stir on social networks. However, Mateus Kanga Londimo wanted to clarify the situation by highlighting the lack of financial resources allocated to the provincial assemblies since their installation.

This case highlights the challenges facing provincial institutions in the DRC, facing accusations of embezzlement and growing pressure from public opinion. It is essential to conduct impartial investigations to shed light on this matter and restore citizens’ trust in their representatives.

Ultimately, transparency and accountability must be at the heart of the management of public funds, thereby preserving the integrity of democratic institutions and guaranteeing good governance at the service of all citizens.
