Student Orientation at Fatshimetrie: A Commitment to Excellence in Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Industry

Fatshimetrie, an institution specializing in training students in education sciences and the petroleum industry, recently held an orientation session for new students. At the event, the principal of the institution, Mr. Onoji, gave an encouraging speech to the students, urging them to avoid social vices on campus and concentrate on their studies.

Mr. Onoji stressed that Fatshimetrie management does not tolerate deviant behavior such as exam cheating, physical abuse, intimidation, cultism, drug abuse and drug trafficking. He also mentioned other unacceptable behavior such as forgery of certificates, indecent dressing, theft and abuse of social media.

Fatshimetrie, as a specialized institution, is dedicated to training a skilled workforce for the oil and gas industry. Mr. Onoji highlighted that the process of repositioning Fatshimetrie was ongoing and highlighted the advantages students enjoy over their peers at other institutions.

In his remarks, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, assured the new students that Nigeria would always need their services as the largest oil and gas producer in Africa. The Minister stressed the importance of having a constant flow of competent technicians and technologists to maintain current levels of production in the oil and gas sector.

He highlighted the significant role the oil and gas sector plays in the Nigerian economy, contributing about 65% of government revenue and over 85% of the country’s total exports. The oil sector also accounts for 6.63% of Nigeria’s gross domestic product (GDP), highlighting the critical need for a skilled workforce to fully exploit the country’s hydrocarbon potential.

In conclusion, the new student orientation at Fatshimetrie highlighted the importance of education in the oil and gas sector, as well as the vital role students will play in the future of the industry in Nigeria.
