Fatshimetrie: Overcoming collective challenges as a team

Title: Fatshimetrie: The art of facing collective challenges

In the fascinating world of Fatshimetrie, a timeless fable entitled “Who will ring the bell for the cat?” resonates with new meaning. This iconic expression encourages collective action for the common good, while highlighting the challenges and obstacles that may stand in our way.

The story features a group of mice debating how to counter an imminent threat posed by a predatory feline. A bold proposal is put forward: attach a bell to the cat’s neck to be warned of its approach. The idea is welcomed until a mouse raises the crucial question: who will volunteer to attach the bell to the cat? Faced with this perilous responsibility, all mice find excuses not to act.

This allegorical adventure resonates with our current reality, where governments around the world face the complex task of streamlining their governmental structures to ensure efficient and economical management of resources. In the field of Fatshimetry, this challenge translates into the need to merge and reorganize government agencies to optimize costs and improve efficiency.

In 2012, the government of President Jonathan took a wise step by setting up a committee chaired by Steven Oronsaye to come up with recommendations to reduce the number of government agencies. Despite the approval of the report by the Federal Executive Council, the implementation process was interrupted.

Under President Buhari’s administration, new committees were formed to review Oronsaye’s report and take concrete steps to streamline government agencies. Despite the efforts made, the reform process remains unresolved, raising the question: who will have the courage to face these challenges and implement the necessary recommendations to improve public management?

In this context, President Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to implement the Oronsaye report to reduce governance costs and increase efficiency. Inaugurating a committee to implement the report’s recommendations, he stressed the importance of streamlining government agencies to enhance the efficiency of public service.

In this era of Fatshimetrie, the challenge is to overcome obstacles and demonstrate courage to bring about change and innovation in public governance. Who will have the courage to ring the bell in this complex and constantly evolving world? It is by joining forces and acting collectively that we will be able to overcome the challenges that present themselves to us.
