Reducing the energy deficit in the Democratic Republic of Congo is currently at the center of debates at the 7th energy conference currently being held in Kolwezi, in the province of Lualaba. Organized by the Federation of Congolese Companies (FEC), this conference aims to assess the country’s current and future energy needs, particularly for mining, industries and households.

This meeting, which extends over three days, focuses on various crucial themes for the Congolese energy sector. Among these, the energy transition, lithium batteries and environmental constraints are major subjects for reflection. Participants in this conference will also focus on the regulation of the energy sector and the measures to be implemented to guarantee adequate energy supply to the Congolese population.

The Democratic Republic of Congo, with annual energy growth of less than 10 megawatts, faces significant challenges to ensure its energy independence. The planned visits to the Busanga hydroelectric dam and the Lumbwe solar station will allow participants to concretely observe the country’s energy infrastructure and better understand the issues related to them.

At the end of this conference, recommendations will be made to the government, investors and consumers. These recommendations, resulting from the ministerial debates which will close the event, will constitute concrete avenues of action to meet the energy challenges facing the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In short, the 7th Kolwezi energy conference offers an essential platform for exchange and reflection for the Congolese energy sector. It makes it possible to draw up a clear inventory and formulate concrete recommendations with a view to improving the country’s energy supply, thus guaranteeing a more stable and more sustainable future for all its inhabitants.
