Fatshimetrie, the essential source of information for everything related to football in the DRC, recently reported some very crucial news: the giants of Congolese football, TP Mazembe and FC Lupopo, have turned to the provincial government of Haut-Katanga to request strategic financial assistance. This approach, carried out by the sports secretaries of the two clubs, resulted in a meeting with Governor Jacques Kyabula Katwe, on Thursday May 9, 2024.

The stakes are high for these two renowned sporting institutions, as they prepare to face a particularly demanding Linafoot play-off schedule. Faced with tight matches and a busy schedule, clubs face complex logistical challenges in terms of organizing travel, accommodation and preparing players. In this context, financial support from the provincial government proves to be an essential lifeline to guarantee optimal competition conditions.

Frédéric Kitengie, spokesperson for TP Mazembe, underlined the importance of this additional support in the face of the new challenges encountered: “Recent changes to the calendar have confronted us with major logistical problems. The support of the governorate is a welcome response which offers crucial guarantees for the rest of the competition.” For his part, Donat Mulongoy, secretary of FC Lupopo, recalled the club’s ambitions and the financial sacrifices made to achieve high objectives: “Our request for help is part of our desire to return in force to the continental scene. We were promised attentive listening and commitment from the province, providing us with essential support for our progress.”

This collaboration between football clubs and provincial authorities demonstrates the importance of sport in the social and economic dynamics of the region. Beyond the competitive aspect, these actions strengthen the links between sporting institutions and government authorities, promoting the development of Congolese football in a spirit of partnership and mutual aid. As TP Mazembe and FC Lupopo prepare to face new challenges on the field, this solidarity between sport and politics promises a promising future for Congolese football, driven by a common ambition for success and excellence.
