**A Big Step Towards Child Protection: The Kaduna State Child Protection Act Implementation Strategy**
In the heart of Kaduna, a major event is taking place: the launch of a five-day workshop aimed at developing a strategy for implementing the Child Protection Act. Organized by the State Ministry of Women, Children and Social Development, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF), this workshop is of vital importance for the protection of human rights of the most vulnerable.
The State Commissioner for Women, Children and Social Development, Dr. Nafisa Maradun, highlighted the key objective of this workshop, namely the development of a strategic plan for the implementation of the Protection Act from childhood. This plan aims to establish the State Implementation Committee and its terms of reference, identify the resources and infrastructure needed for legislative implementation, as well as improve understanding of key aspects of the legislation on child protection.
UNICEF’s commitment to this approach was praised by Commissioner Maradun, thus underlining the crucial support provided by the organization to the State for the development of this implementation strategy. She urged participants to contribute meaningfully by leveraging the lessons learned from this workshop.
For his part, the Child Protection Specialist at UNICEF, Pius Nwamanua, stressed the importance of the participation of Kaduna State in the development and implementation of a plan for the child protection law. He recalled UNICEF’s continued commitment to the overall well-being of children in the region.
This implementation plan will clearly define the roles of different government institutions and civil society organizations in the delivery of services for children in Kaduna State. It will also encourage strengthened intersectoral collaboration for effective protection of children’s rights.
In short, this workshop represents a crucial step in the protection and promotion of children’s rights in Kaduna. By uniting their efforts and expertise, the actors involved give themselves the means to guarantee a better and more secure future for the region’s youth. A laudable initiative, which certainly marks the beginning of a new chapter in the defense of children’s rights in Kaduna State.
