The film industry has always captivated audiences around the world with its vibrant stories and cultural richness. However, piracy remains a persistent threat that undermines its full potential.

Recently, an announcement on Instagram attracted attention: Adebayo took action against a “notable media company” that distributes content on YouTube and exploited the image of his film, Survival of Jelili.

To fool viewers into thinking they were watching the real film, the YouTube channel superimposed footage from its 2019 film onto another YouTube video that saw an increase in views over time due to this fraud .

Adebayo said: “With the dedication of our legal team, Bola Adebowale & Co Legal Practitioners, seasoned professionals with extensive experience in handling such cases. They presented compelling evidence, led a strong argument and carried the “Their promptness, efficiency and attention to detail played a major role in the outcome of the case.”

This investment paid off, according to Adebayo, who added: “We won and got a total of twenty-five million naira.”

Adebayo concluded by pointing out that “reckless pirates” are a major reason why the Nigerian film industry has failed to fully realize its true commercial potential.

“This is largely why investors find it difficult to commit financially to filmmakers,” he said.

Another filmmaker, Toyin Abraham, had already revealed earlier this year that piracy of her films had caused her to have panic attacks and had landed her in the hospital in the past.

This case highlights a major problem facing many content creators: the fight against piracy. It is essential to identify and combat these illegal practices which harm both artists and the industry as a whole. It is crucial to raise awareness about the consequences of piracy and support the steps creators take to protect their work. Ultimately, it is by working together – filmmakers, audiences and authorities – that we can preserve the integrity of the film industry and guarantee its sustainable development.
