In today’s global economic landscape, challenges are multiplying at dizzying speed. At the opening of a regional workshop on project management, monitoring and evaluation organized by WAIFEM in Abuja, the speech of the Governor of the Central Bank, broadcast by Dr. Yusuf Bulus, highlights the urgency of managing efficiently use increasingly limited resources to respond to emerging issues.

The management of public resources has become an imperative necessity in a tense fiscal environment, marked by increasing human conflicts, geo-economic fragmentation, pressures on the cost of living and climate change. In this context, government and private organizations must implement fiscal measures to reconcile competing priorities with limited available resources.

At the heart of any major project is the design of a robust monitoring and evaluation framework. This framework, the cornerstone of any development project, is crucial for successful implementation and achievement of defined objectives.

The Director General of WAIFEM, Dr Baba Musa, emphasizes that the success of projects relies on the identification of key moments throughout their execution. From initiation to closure, including planning, execution, monitoring and evaluation, each phase must be evaluated to ensure sustainability of progress until the end of the project.

Poor results management can compromise the achievement of set objectives. Monitoring and evaluation are therefore ongoing management functions aimed at assessing progress made in achieving expected results, identifying obstacles to implementation and identifying possible undesirable effects or potential risks.

This workshop aims to equip participants with the skills necessary to set up and execute projects by fully understanding how the monitoring and evaluation system works.

In conclusion, in an ever-changing world where resources are scarce and challenges are increasing, effective project management and careful evaluation are of paramount importance to ensure the success of development initiatives. The workshop organized by WAIFEM in Abuja is part of this dynamic of capacity building to meet current challenges with agility and success.
