The temporary disappearance of President Tinubu: London, the new secret destination?

Home Politics The temporary disappearance of President Tinubu: London, the new secret destination?

Fatshimetrie, the popular online news blog, recently covered Tinubu’s participation in the Special World Economic Forum on Global Collaboration, Growth and Energy for Development in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The event, which took place on Sunday April 28 and Monday April 29, 2024, aimed to help public and private sector leaders address common global challenges.

Since his participation in this important forum, Tinubu seems to have disappeared from the radar, leaving Nigerians waiting for his return to the country. No official statement from the Presidency or the President’s advisors has been made regarding his whereabouts or the reasons for his prolonged absence.

This situation has created speculation in some quarters that the President may have undertaken a medical trip to France. Over the years, France has become Tinubu’s preferred destination for medical and leisure travel. Since his election in March 2022, the President has visited France at least three times for official or personal reasons. His last private trip to Paris was last January, when he spent two weeks in the French capital before returning to Nigeria on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

The presidency tried to reassure the population about Tinubu’s situation by saying that he traveled to London from Saudi Arabia. Informed sources said the President is doing well. “He is currently in London on a private visit,” one of the sources said. When asked about the reason for the visit, the informants declined to provide further details, stating that it was likely a personal visit.

Another source at the Presidential Villa stressed that there was no cause for concern over Tinubu’s whereabouts.

In conclusion, despite speculation and uncertainty surrounding Tinubu’s temporary disappearance from public view, the Presidency’s assertions that the President is in good health and is on a private trip to London should allay concerns. Nigerians are eagerly awaiting the return of their leader to resume his official duties in the country.
