During the 13th edition of the African Games, which took place in Accra, Ghana, the Congolese delegation shone thanks to its boxers who won the Grail. Indeed, of the 7 Congolese finalists, two stood out by winning gold medals in their respective categories. Steve Kulenguluka (-78kg) notably beat Elsayed Ragab of Egypt, while Peter Pita Kabeji dominated Houmri Mohamed of Algeria in the -80kg category.

Despite the defeats of 5 other Congolese boxers, they still managed to win 5 silver medals. A remarkable record which brings to 11 the total number of medals won by the Congolese boxing delegation during this event (2 Gold, 5 silver, 4 bronze).

At the same time, Congolese wrestlers also contributed to the prize list by obtaining 4 bronze medals. Furthermore, the Congolese men’s and women’s handball teams respectively won two silver medals despite losing finals to Angola and Egypt.

This performance of Congolese athletes testifies to their talent and their determination to shine on the African scene. Beyond the results, it is above all the passion and commitment of these athletes which deserve to be highlighted, thus inspiring an entire nation to believe in its abilities and to aim ever higher.
