Rwanda under fire for its behavior towards the DRC

Home International Rwanda under fire for its behavior towards the DRC

Today, global outcry has surged against Rwanda’s detrimental actions towards the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Zénon Mukongo Ngay, the DRC’s UN permanent representative, accused Rwanda of obstructing regional peace processes for self-gain, jeopardizing Congo’s sovereignty and security.

In his impassioned address to the Security Council, Zénon Mukongo exposed Rwanda’s fixation on the DRC’s rich natural resources, exploited to the detriment of regional peace. Rwanda’s pursuit to establish an exploitation and settlement colony in the DRC, aiming to dominate Congolese institutions, was strongly condemned.

The repercussions of Rwanda’s expansionist agenda are dire, with over 7 million Congolese displaced, predominantly women and girls accounting for over 70% of the uprooted population. These women endure brutal violence, rape, and inhumane treatment, stripping them of dignity and basic rights.

The international community cannot turn a blind eye to this humanitarian crisis. Led by Zénon Mukongo, Congolese authorities emphasize the urgency of reinstating peace and dignity for Congolese women. The DRC upholds commitment to the women, peace, and security agenda outlined in resolution 1325 (2000) and urges joint efforts to halt human rights violations by Rwanda.

It is imperative for the global community to strongly denounce Rwanda’s actions in the DRC and collaborate to restore peace, stability, and dignity to the Congolese populace. The time has come to uphold every individual’s fundamental rights and eradicate enduring injustices in the region.

In conclusion, unwavering vigilance and sustained support are essential to assist the DRC in its pursuit of justice and reconciliation, ensuring a harmonious and prosperous future for all Congolese.
