The Kasaï-Oriental Provincial Assembly installs its final office: A new political era in progress

The political landscape of the Kasai-Oriental province underwent a significant transformation last Wednesday, April 24, with the installation of the final office of the Provincial Assembly. This crucial event marked the end of a rigorous electoral process and culminated in the appointment of Willy Muya Mukendi, a member of the UDPS party, as the new president of the deliberative body.

In a closely contested election that necessitated a second round of voting, Willy Muya Mukendi secured victory with 19 votes, defeating his opponent Eugénie Tshilanda Kazadi of 2A/TDC. Alongside President Willy Muya Mukendi, other Members of the Provincial Assembly were elected to key positions within the office. Jean-Paul Mboma of 4AC was appointed as vice-president, while Faustin Ntumba of AV and Trésor Lukusa of AFDC-A were chosen as rapporteur and deputy rapporteur, respectively. Noteworthy is the election of MP Ruth Kayikuamva as quaestor, the sole woman in the final office, highlighting the diversity and inclusivity of the institution.
