The province of Haut-Uele in the Democratic Republic of Congo is currently grappling with a boundary conflict between the Timoniko and Mongomasi chiefdoms. Governor Christophe Baseane has taken proactive steps to address the situation and facilitate dialogue between the conflicting parties.

In a recent meeting at his official residence in Isiro, Governor Baseane met with the leaders of the Timoniko and Mongomasi chiefdoms, along with the provincial territorial inspector, to discuss the issues surrounding the territorial dispute. The Governor emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and using dialogue as a constructive method to resolve differences.

Governor Baseane urged traditional leaders to actively participate in local conflict resolution efforts based on fairness and justice. The provincial territorial inspector, Alexis Etshumba, expressed optimism about the stakeholders’ potential to overcome their disputes and collaborate towards a peaceful future for Haut-Uele.

The Governor set up a commission of inquiry, led by Chief Molha, to thoroughly examine the boundary conflict. Subsequently, a meeting was convened with all relevant stakeholders, including administrators from the Rungu and Wamba territories, to address the situation.

It is crucial to handle administrative boundary conflicts collaboratively to avoid division and promote social cohesion. The authorities aim to ease tensions and foster a peaceful and cooperative environment between the Timoniko and Mongomasi Chiefdoms through dialogue, mutual understanding, and respect for all involved.
