Historic political reconciliation upon the return of Mr. Urhoghide to the APC: A major turning point for political unity in Benin

Fatshimetrie, a political organization in Benin, made headlines when it welcomed Mr. Urhoghide and other political defectors into its ranks in the capital of Edo State. This significant event took place on Saturday, April 13, 2024, as Mr. Urhoghide made his return to the ruling APC after leaving the PDP along with eight local council chairmen.

Former APC National Chairman, Oshiomhole, took the opportunity to apologize to Mr. Urhoghide for previously endorsing another candidate, Senator Ehigie Uzamere, over him. Oshiomhole acknowledged that this decision led to the loss of the Edo South region to the PDP on two occasions. He admitted that he was ill-advised and took full responsibility for the mistake.

Oshiomhole recounted how the late Esongban of Benin Kingdom, Chief David Edebiri, cautioned him against his choice and how Mr. Urhoghide had foreseen the regrets that would follow. Following Uzamere’s victory and subsequent return to the PDP, Urhoghide defeated the APC twice in the subsequent elections in Edo South, teaching his former allies a valuable lesson in politics.

Mr. Urhoghide expressed his delight at rejoining the APC and was appointed as the party’s general director for the electoral campaign. This reunion signifies a turning point in his political journey and emphasizes the significance of unity within a political party.

The reconciliation meeting exemplifies the idea that political variances can be resolved for the greater good. It showcases the APC’s capacity to unite its members and consolidate its position in the Edo region. This event will be remembered as a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s political history, illustrating reconciliation and a return to the core principles of democracy and civic duty.
