“Strengthening collaboration between SADC electoral commissions: Feedback on the ECF-SADC executive committee meeting”

The recently held ECF-SADC Executive Committee meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between electoral commissions in SADC countries. Indeed, the President of the CENI, Denis Kadima, highlighted the positive impact of the observations of the ECF-SADC electoral observation mission during the general elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo last December.

This close collaboration made it possible to identify areas for improvement in the electoral system and to benefit from constructive advice to strengthen the electoral process in the DRC. Denis Kadima expressed satisfaction with the evolution of the Forum of Electoral Commissions of SADC Countries, stressing the importance of continuing to work together to promote free and fair elections in the region.

The ECF-SADC executive committee meeting was also an opportunity to salute the efforts made by the CENI to carry out the combined elections of December 2023. ECF-SADC members congratulated the DRC for its commitment to electoral integrity and democracy.

This meeting thus made it possible to strengthen links between the electoral commissions of SADC countries and to promote a culture of sharing experiences and expertise to improve electoral processes across the region. The CENI’s commitment to continuing to improve its electoral system and supporting other countries in this path was welcomed by ECF-SADC.

In short, the ECF-SADC executive committee meeting was an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of regional cooperation in the electoral field and to highlight the essential role of electoral commissions in the promotion of democracy in southern Africa.
