The Kilo-Mongbwalu road north of Bunia in the territory of Djugu (Ituri) was the scene of a tragic traffic accident which claimed the lives of five people and injured two others on Monday March 25. The victims, including a child, were on board a vehicle carrying around sixty passengers and foodstuffs from Mahagi territory towards the town of Kilo State.

According to Robert Basiloko, president of civil society in the Banyali Kilo sector, the injured were quickly treated and transferred to a local medical establishment. The accident occurred at Mutumbu, near the village Libima, 12 kilometers from the town of Mongbwalu. Local sources attributed this incident to the recklessness of the driver and the poor state of the road.

In addition, two other vehicles found themselves stuck in quagmires at the same location, disrupting traffic in the region. Residents are calling on the authorities to urgently rehabilitate this road to ensure the safety of trade in the area.

This tragic accident once again highlights the importance of maintaining road infrastructure to guarantee the safety of users.
