“Bubonic plague in Rethy: Health Emergency in the Djugu area”

Recent news from the Rethy health zone, located in the Djugu territory in the north of Ituri province, reports an increase in cases of bubonic plague among students. In fact, thirteen cases were recorded, of which unfortunately three resulted in death.

According to Doctor Dhena Nyiba, medical director of Rethy General Hospital, these cases have been recorded since January 8 until today. Among the sick and victims, there are nine girls and four boys, all students of E.P Kpandroma, in the Zabu group. It is essential to strengthen health services to contain this epidemic, which has proven to be a major challenge for the region.

Health authorities are urging people to avoid handling mortal remains and to promptly seek medical attention if they experience symptoms such as cough, high fever, swelling, etc. In a region that has already been facing the epidemic for several years, the situation is all the more critical due to stock shortages of medications for patient care.

Bubonic plague, caused by the bacteria Yersinia pestis, is a life-threatening illness that requires emergency hospitalization and appropriate antibiotic treatment. Symptoms include swollen lymph nodes, fever, chills, headache and muscle pain.

It is essential that rigorous measures are taken to stem the spread of this disease and ensure adequate care for affected patients. The entire population must remain vigilant and follow the recommendations of health authorities to prevent the possible spread of the epidemic.
