Amidst the excitement of the NYSC Orientation Camp at Umunna, Bende District, the deployment of corps members for Session 2024, Batch ‘A’, Series 1 to Abia State sparks a sense of commitment and of responsibility. At the official opening ceremony, which took place on Tuesday, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Dick-Iruenabere, made a poignant appeal for an improvement in the living conditions of corps members.
In a worrying economic context, Ms. Dick-Iruenabere highlighted the need to offer corps members better housing conditions and an increase in their local benefits. According to her, these elements are essential motivating factors to encourage corps members to contribute more effectively to their host communities.
During the orientation exercise, a total of 1,293 corps members, including 642 males and 651 females, were registered. Ms Dick-Iruenabere congratulated the new arrivals and encouraged them to actively participate in all camp activities.
For his part, Governor Alex Otti reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding acts of dedication and service. Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Cyril Nwigwe, Governor Otti assured the corps members of significant rewards for their efforts in improving the lives of the underprivileged and promoting the development of their host communities.
Otti encouraged corps members to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the NYSC program, particularly through its Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship (SAED) training. He expressed confidence that this program will prepare them for self-employment opportunities after their service, empowering them to become employers.
In a context of commitment, recognition and desire for emancipation, this orientation session promises to bring hope and possibilities for these young members of the corps dedicated to serving the community.
