In an effort to modernize and improve airport infrastructure in Nigeria, the government plans to install ultra-modern entry gates at the country’s five major international airports by March 2024.
According to reports, these portals aim to simplify customs clearance services for travelers entering Nigeria. The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has revealed that Lagos’ main airport, Muritala Muhammed Airport, will accommodate 17 gates, while Mallam Aminu Kano, Port Harcourt and Akanu Ibiam International Airports in Enugu will have 17 gates respectively. five and four portals.
The minister stressed that these facilities will contribute to the effective and efficient management of international passengers. He was impressed by the level of work already accomplished and the speed of progress during his visit to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
By adopting these new technologies, the government aims to improve services while maintaining national security standards. The aim is to reduce waiting times and simplify formalities for passengers. Passage times are estimated at just 30 seconds per passenger, which promises increased fluidity and efficiency.
Thanks to these portals, passengers will no longer have to interact with immigration officials, unless they are special cases.
