Rehabilitation of N’djili international airport: A major step forward for the development of the DRC

N’djili international airport, located in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is currently undergoing rehabilitation. This question was addressed during the last meeting of the Council of Ministers, chaired by the Head of State, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi.

According to the Minister of Transport and Communications, Marc Ekila, the government has mobilized leading expertise for the development of the instruments necessary for the rehabilitation of the airport. A Turkish company, Milvest, was selected to collaborate with the Congolese government in this project.

The main preliminary steps have already been taken, including the disengagement of the Chinese company which was initially responsible for the airport modernization work. In addition, the Milvest company collected the data necessary for the feasibility study and the corresponding documents were validated by the Congolese authorities.

The minister also specified that the new N’djili airport will cover an area of 800,000 square meters, including an area dedicated to the airport city and a cargo area of approximately 100,000 square meters.

It is important to emphasize that the rehabilitation work at N’djili airport is currently not encountering any major obstacles and the foundation stone laying ceremony should take place soon, in accordance with the agenda of the President of the Republic. The project monitoring committee will continue to harmonize the collaboration agreement with the master plan and the feasibility studies, with the aim of starting the work as soon as possible.

This rehabilitation of N’djili international airport is an important step for the development of infrastructure in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and it will contribute to strengthening the country’s capacities in terms of air transport and international connectivity.
