MP Elizabeth Forson urged Ghanaians not to downplay the severity of the situation, stressing that the current cuts are little different from those of 2015. For his part, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, an opposition MP, criticized the government’s handling of power cuts, describing its silence on the issue as deafening. He called on the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) to provide a load shedding schedule to help households and businesses plan.
Buah highlighted the lack of a clear program, noting that this complicates the lives of affected households and businesses. He stressed the need for transparency and communication from authorities, saying: “The lack of transparency and communication regarding the timing of power cuts only adds to the frustration and discomfort experienced by the population concerned.”
He also noted that the current outages, even in their worst-case scenario, have not reached the 500 megawatt threshold reached during previous “dumsor” periods. Despite this, he criticized media outlets close to the ruling party for their apparent silence on the issue, saying: “Their thunderous silence on the current situation is deafening.”
These criticisms raise questions about the management of electricity supply in Ghana and the transparency of authorities in planning and communication. Ghanaians are waiting for clear answers and concrete measures to resolve this recurring problem and restore reliable electricity supply.
