Operatives of the Kwara Police Command arrested these suspects for allegedly slitting the throat of their neighbor following a disagreement they had.
The incident was said to have taken place around midnight on Monday, January 1, 2024, at Shao Garage area of Ilorin, Ilorin East Local Government, Kwara State.
According to a source close to the case, a brother of the victim, AbdulRazaq Babatunde, alerted by the cries of a resident, went out at that time to find his younger brother, Abubakar Babatunde, bathing in his blood after having been throat cut.
“He was then rushed to Ilorn University Hospital for medical treatment,” the source added.
Kwara State Police spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, who confirmed the incident, said the arrested suspects are currently in custody.
“We will do the right thing as soon as we have completed our investigations,” she said.
This incident comes a few months after an inspector on duty in the barracks stabbed another resident to death following a misunderstanding.
The inspector’s son, Destiny Ogbantu, a student at Madonna University, reportedly lost his temper amid the scuffle and stabbed their neighbor, identified as Onyebuchi Emeka, to death inside their building, in the apartments in Block D, Warri Barracks.
As investigations continue into these tragic events, it is important to remember the importance of peaceful resolution of disputes and harmonious coexistence within our communities. Violence can never be the solution and we must all focus on building stronger bonds between neighbors to foster a safe and peaceful environment.
The Kwara Police Department and local authorities must also ensure that those responsible for these acts of violence are held accountable for their actions. Justice must be served so that these incidents do not become unnecessary tragedies.
Finally, it is essential to encourage awareness and education within communities to promote the peaceful resolution of conflicts and prevent such acts of violence. Investing in mediation and conflict management programs can help prevent such incidents in the future.
Together, let’s work to build safe, peaceful and supportive communities where everyone can live in harmony with their neighbors.
