Recognition and democratic fair play: Tony Cassius Bolamba accepts the re-election of Félix Tshisekedi as president of the DRC
In a gesture of sportsmanship and democratic respect, presidential candidate Tony Cassius Bolamba publicly recognized the re-election of Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo to the supreme office of the Democratic Republic of Congo. In his statement on December 28, he congratulated candidate number 20 for his victory, even before the official publication of the provisional and final results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) and the Constitutional Court.
Tony Cassius Bolamba underlined the importance of national unity in a context where the stability of the Republic is threatened by multiple plots. He encouraged Félix Tshisekedi to dialogue with all Congolese, regardless of their political affiliations, in the interest of the country. The independent presidential candidate also expressed his gratitude to the Congolese diaspora and all those who supported his austerity project.
“Under the label of candidate number 7 in the presidential election of December 20, I announced before the elections that I was not going to contest the results, whatever they may be… I humbly congratulate candidate number 20, the President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, for his re-election, pending final confirmation of the results by the Constitutional Court,” declared Tony Cassius Bolamba.
He also appealed to the Congolese population not to give in to manipulation and to protect national unity against those who seek to harm the Republic. This recognition of his opponent’s victory testifies to a respectful and democratic approach on the part of Tony Cassius Bolamba, which thus highlights the best interests of the country.
This exemplary attitude helps to strengthen confidence in the electoral process in the DRC and to promote a culture of respect and political fair play. The mutual recognition of results between candidates is an important step towards the consolidation of democracy in the country.
We now have to wait for the official validation of the results by the Constitutional Court, which will confirm the re-election of Félix Tshisekedi as president of the DRC. In the meantime, the Congolese hope that this political transition will take place with stability and respect for democratic principles, for the benefit of all citizens.
