Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation Rania al-Mashat has highlighted the important partnership between Egypt and Japan in terms of development cooperation. With a portfolio of over 18 projects worth approximately US$ 3.9 billion, Japan is considered one of Egypt’s key development partners in Asia.

These projects play a crucial role in supporting Egypt’s sustainable development goals and have been implemented since 2010. The grants from Japan cover various sectors such as health, education, energy, transportation, tourism, and irrigation. They contribute to sustainable economic growth, social inclusion, education development, human resources development, regional cooperation, and the national strategy to combat climate change.

During a meeting with Kei Toyama, the new Director-General of the Japan International Cooperation Authority (JICA) for the Middle East and Europe, Minister al-Mashat expressed her appreciation for the ongoing cooperation with Japan and the important role played by JICA in supporting Egypt’s development priorities.

In addition to the existing projects, discussions were held to explore future cooperation opportunities aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030. The Ministry of International Cooperation serves as a coordinator between government agencies and development partners, both multilateral and bilateral.

The annual report of the Ministry of International Cooperation for the year 2023, titled “Platforms for Policy-Making and Activating Partnerships,” showcases the extensive collaboration between Egypt and Japan in various sectors. This reflects the commitment of both countries to fostering sustainable development and achieving mutual goals.

The partnership between Egypt and Japan serves as a model for successful cooperation between nations. Both countries recognize the importance of working together to address pressing development challenges and create a better future for their citizens.
