On December 23, 2023, in Kananga, a conference was held to report on the forum on the identification of victims and the ecosystem. This meeting, organized by the NGO FMMDI of Nathalie KAMBALA LUSE and the ANVC of Mhyrrand MULUMBA, brought together representatives of victims of the Kamuina Nsapu wars in the Kasai region.
The objective of this activity was to present the latest resolutions, proposals and analyzes that were carried out in Kinshasa, while contextualizing this information at the provincial level. The emphasis was therefore placed on suggestions, lessons learned and recommendations to improve the tool allowing FONAREV to work at the local or provincial level.
According to Nathalie KAMBALA, country director of the association “Femme hand in hand for integral development”, five provinces were selected as pilots for this program, namely Kasaï-Central, Ituri, North Kivu, Kikwit and Central Congo. The objective now is to organize victims’ associations and victim support associations as quickly as possible in order to create a solid ecosystem and implement the forum’s recommendations.
Mhyrrand MULUMBA from the National Association of Victims of Congo welcomed the efforts made by the President of the Republic Félix TSHISEKEDI for holding this forum. He stressed the importance of this initiative for the victim identification process, and announced that the next step will consist of deploying a large FONAREV delegation to the pilot provinces, in order to assess the degree of restitution.
This meeting therefore marks a significant step forward in the search for justice and reparation for the victims of the atrocities committed during the Kamuina Nsapu wars. It also demonstrates the Congolese government’s commitment to supporting victims and facing the consequences of these conflicts.
In conclusion, this restitution conference of the forum on the identification of victims and the ecosystem made it possible to advance the cause of the victims of the Kamuina Nsapu wars in the Kasai region. This is an important step towards justice and reparation, and demonstrates the Congolese government’s commitment to this process. The hope is that the forum’s recommendations will be quickly implemented to provide support and reparation to victims.
