“Dismantling of Mayi-Mayi militiamen in Ituri: 6 killed and 2 captured during a recent FARDC operation”

Six Mai-Mai militiamen lost their lives and two others were captured during an operation by the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC) in the Mayuwano region, in the territory of Mambasa (Ituri). This operation was carried out as part of efforts to dismantle this armed group which exerts a destabilizing influence in the area.

According to the military command of the 31st brigade based in Mambasa, combat patrols found themselves facing a group of wandering Mayi-Mayi militiamen, which led to a skirmish between the two camps. The clashes lasted several hours and resulted in the neutralization of six Mai-Mai militiamen, while two others were captured. Additionally, two AK 47 type weapons with ammunition were also recovered.

In recent days, FARDC soldiers have intensified their combat patrols in the Mayuwano region, where Mai-Mai armed groups and the ADF are particularly active. These operations aim to reduce the threat posed by these armed groups and allow the local population to resume their agricultural activities in complete safety.

It is crucial to emphasize that the persistence of insecurity in the Ituri region is a major concern. Armed groups continue to sow terror, kidnapping notables and disrupting the daily lives of populations. The FARDC’s efforts to dismantle these groups and restore security are therefore essential to guarantee peace and stability in the region.

It should also be noted that this FARDC operation is part of enhanced cooperation between the DRC and Angola to combat insecurity and promote economic development in the region. By working hand in hand, these two countries seek to resolve the problems of insecurity and illicit exploitation of resources, which have a negative impact on local populations.

In conclusion, recent FARDC operations in the Mayuwano region demonstrate efforts to dismantle armed groups and restore security. However, it is essential to continue monitoring the situation and strengthen regional cooperation to end the persistent insecurity in the Ituri region. Only a global and coordinated approach will guarantee a peaceful and prosperous future for local populations.
