Title: Togo calls for the withdrawal of French forces during a meeting with President Faure Gnassingbé

Hat: A delegation from the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland was received by the Togolese President, Faure Gnassingbé, to take stock of the situation in the country and request the withdrawal of French forces. This request follows an agreement where Togo was designated as guarantor, alongside the United States, to supervise this withdrawal. The country is also positioning itself to facilitate negotiations with the international community and ECOWAS.

Togo recently made a pressing request during a meeting with President Faure Gnassingbé: the withdrawal of French forces present on its territory. The delegation of the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland, led by General Salifou Mody, Minister of Defense, informed the president of the situation in the country and expressed the desire to see French forces leave Togolese territory.

According to General Mody, the withdrawal is underway thanks to an agreement with the French authorities. The latter also stressed that Togo had demanded that the United States, which has military personnel on Togolese territory, also be guarantors of this agreement. In addition, Togo wants its neighboring and brother country, Niger, to be involved in this process as a guarantor.

The withdrawal of French forces is seen as an important step for Togo, but the country is not stopping there. Foreign Minister Robert Dussey condemned the forceful takeovers, but also reached out to the international community and ECOWAS. Togo is ready to play the role of facilitator in the negotiations and to support the transition in Niger.

Togo is thus positioned to play a key role in conflict resolution and to facilitate cooperation between countries in the region. By designating Togo as guarantor in the process of withdrawal of French forces, President Faure Gnassingbé recognizes the important role that the country plays in regional stability. Togo is also preparing to facilitate negotiations with the international community, including with ECOWAS, which has imposed strict financial sanctions and closed trade with Niger.

Togo thus shows its desire to contribute to the peaceful resolution of conflicts and the stabilization of the region. By playing the role of mediator and facilitator, the country positions itself as a key player in discussions and negotiations. The withdrawal of French forces is only one step in this process, but it illustrates Togo’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region..
