Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi and Bineta Diop unite for the cause of women in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)
Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi, the First Lady of the DRC, recently met with Bineta Diop, the Special Envoy of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, to discuss actions in favor of women and health in the DRC. During their meeting, the two personalities reviewed the various achievements of the First Lady in these crucial areas.
One of Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi’s major actions concerns the care of patients with sickle cell disease. This serious genetic disease affects the quality of life of many people in the DRC, and the First Lady is actively engaged in the fight against this disease, in particular by providing medical support and raising awareness of this health problem.
But his commitment does not stop there. Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi is also involved in the fight against violence against women. Its initiative, Fonarev, aims to end sexual and gender-based violence in the DRC, by offering support to victims and prosecuting the perpetrators of these heinous acts. Bineta Diop welcomed this action and encouraged the First Lady to continue her initiatives, while hoping that other African countries can take inspiration from them.
During their meeting, Bineta Diop also underlined the importance of the involvement of women in decision-making processes and negotiations to guarantee lasting peace in the DRC. She called on Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi to take initiatives in collaboration with political parties and the President of the Republic to ensure better representation of women in politics.
The African Union delegation, which includes Bineta Diop, also plans to go to Goma as part of its mission in favor of women in the DRC. This demonstrates the importance given to the situation of women in the country, and the commitment of the African Union to supporting actions undertaken in their favor.
Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi and Bineta Diop have thus shown their determination to promote women’s rights and improve the condition of women in the DRC. Their collaboration strengthens the commitment and desire to advance the cause of women across the entire African continent.
