“Storm Domingos: France on alert, ten departments placed on orange vigilance”

Storms continue to batter France, leaving behind scenes of destruction and chaos. After the passage of storm Ciaran two days ago, a new disturbance named Domingos is preparing to hit the Atlantic coast of the country.

Météo-France announced that ten new departments will be placed on orange alert on Saturday evening due to forecast violent gusts of wind. Vendée, Deux-Sèvres, Vienne, Charente-Maritime, Charente, Gironde, Bouches-du-Rhône, Var, Corse-du-Sud and Haute-Corse are affected by this alert.

Meteorologists are warning of the consequences of this bad weather, in particular the risks of waves-submersion and rain-flooding. Pas-de-Calais is already on orange alert for floods. Wind gusts that can exceed 100 km/h are expected, mainly in the departments on the Atlantic coast. However, strong winds could also affect inland areas.

This succession of storms highlights the climate changes which are affecting our country more and more frequently. The consequences of these extreme weather phenomena are felt through material damage and human losses. It is more necessary than ever to adopt prevention and preparation measures for these climatic events.

In addition, Reunion, located thousands of kilometers from mainland France, is also affected by heavy rains and thunderstorms. The south, east and southeast areas of the island are on orange alert. Local authorities are calling on residents to respect safety instructions.

It is essential to remain vigilant and follow the recommendations of the competent authorities in the event of a weather alert. Safety and the preservation of lives must be the top priority during storms.
