“FONER invests in road maintenance in South Kivu to ensure the security and development of the region”

Road maintenance in the South Kivu province of Congo is a major concern for the National Road Maintenance Fund (FONER). The organization’s general director, Pierre Bundoki Ndongala, recently announced that FONER continued to finance work on the RN2 and RN5 national roads.

According to Mr. Bundoki, FONER is responsible for financing road works, in collaboration with the Roads Office and the OVD, under the validation of the Ministry of Public Works. It is reassuring to note that work on the RN2 and RN5 is in progress, and that the road linking Bukavu to Uvira is not cut. He also highlighted that the second tranche of funding has been released and that the Roads Office is actively working on these projects.

Despite the absence of toll booths currently in the South Kivu province, FONER has other resources, such as fuel fees, which allow it to continue its missions. However, the Director General highlighted the need to rethink the management of toll plazas, as in the past they have often been used for personal purposes rather than funding road maintenance.

The population of South Kivu expresses the desire to see FONER take over the management of toll stations, but Mr. Bundoki emphasizes that this can only be done when the roads are in good condition. He emphasizes the need to first finance road maintenance before installing toll booths.

This news on the financing of road works by FONER is excellent news for the inhabitants of the province of South Kivu. It guarantees better road safety and will facilitate travel and economic development in the region.

In conclusion, thanks to the commitment of FONER, work on the RN2 and RN5 national roads continues in the province of South Kivu. It is essential to continue investing in road maintenance to ensure the mobility of residents and promote the development of the region.
