“Gold exports to the DRC: Record results in the first half of 2023, with revenues of more than $677 million!”

Gold exports in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) recorded encouraging results during the first six months of 2023. According to the report from the Technical Coordination and Mining Planning Unit of the Ministry of Mines , the DRC exported a total of 15 tonnes of raw gold, generating revenue of around 677.3 million US dollars.

Kibali Gold and MCCR were the main players in these exports. Kibali Gold exported over 13 tonnes of gold, worth an estimated US$556.1 million. As for the MCCR company, it exported 15.83 kg of gold for revenues estimated at $847.103. It is important to note that the majority of gold exports come from industrial mining, notably from the Kibali Gold company.

At the same time, artisanal gold mining has also contributed to the country’s exports. During the first half of 2023, more than two tons of artisanal raw gold were exported, generating revenues of approximately $120.3 million. These exports mainly come from South Kivu, followed by Tanganyika, the province of Kinshasa, Ituri and Tshopo.

These figures demonstrate the mining potential of the DRC, particularly with regard to gold. The export of this valuable resource not only contributes to the economic growth of the country, but also to job creation and the development of local communities. However, it is essential to ensure that these mining activities are carried out in a responsible and sustainable manner, respecting the environment and workers’ rights.

The DRC has significant reserves of gold and other mineral resources, providing great opportunities for the economic and social development of the country. It is therefore crucial to put in place strategies and policies that promote responsible and beneficial mining for the entire Congolese population.

In conclusion, the export of gold to the DRC during the first six months of 2023 was promising, generating significant revenue for the country. However, it is essential to ensure that this activity is carried out in a responsible and sustainable manner, in order to maximize its long-term economic and social benefits.
