“The DRC, a major player in gold exports in 2023: impressive results and promising economic growth”

Gold exports in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continue to thrive in 2023, with impressive results in the first six months of the year. According to a report from the Ministry of Mines, the DRC managed to export 15 tonnes of raw gold, which generated revenue of US$677.3 million.

Kibali Gold Company stands out as the leading exporter, with over 13 tonnes of gold estimated to be worth US$556.1 million. For its part, the MCCR company was able to export 15.83 kg of gold, for revenues estimated at 847,103 US dollars. Interestingly, the majority of gold exports come from industrial mining carried out by Kibali Gold, with the quantity representing 88% of the total.

Regarding artisanal mining, the DRC has also achieved significant exports, with more than 2 tonnes of raw gold exported during the first half of 2023, generating revenues of $120.3 million. South Kivu positions itself as the main contributor, representing 96.86% of artisanal gold exports, followed by Tanganyika with 1.63%, the province of Kinshasa with 0.56%, Ituri with 0. 53% and Tshopo with 0.43%.

This success in gold export demonstrates the economic potential of the DRC and confirms its position as a major player in the international gold market. However, it is important to ensure that this mining activity is carried out in a responsible and sustainable manner, ensuring environmental protection and respect for workers’ rights.

In conclusion, gold exports to the Democratic Republic of Congo see significant growth in 2023, with impressive volumes and revenues in the first six months of the year. This success demonstrates the economic potential of the country, but also requires responsible management to guarantee sustainable development.
