Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi: her commitment to women’s health and rights in the DRC

The First Lady of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi, was the subject of a recent discussion between two influential figures. During this discussion, various achievements of the First Lady were reviewed, highlighting her commitment to the field of health, in particular her care for sickle cell patients. She was also praised for her involvement in the fight against this serious illness which particularly affects the lives of women.

One of the achievements that particularly attracted attention is the Fonarev initiative, aimed at combating violence against women. This action was highly appreciated by Bineta Diop, Special Envoy of the President of the African Union Commission, who hoped that this model would be replicated in other African countries.

Bineta Diop also wanted to salute the commitment of Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi within the OPDAD (Organization for the Promotion of the Rights of the Blind and the Visually Impaired). She underlined the importance of the work and initiatives of the First Ladies of Africa to support their spouses at the level of the African Union. Bineta Diop also called for greater involvement of women at the negotiating table, in order to promote lasting peace. Thus, she encouraged Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi to take initiatives with political parties and the President of the Republic for better representation of women in this area.

As part of its mission in favor of women, the African Union delegation plans to go to Goma this Friday. This visit will be an opportunity to strengthen actions in favor of Congolese women and promote their active participation in decision-making.

Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi therefore continues to demonstrate a real commitment to the health and rights of women in the DRC. Her work is not only recognized nationally, but also praised by international figures such as Bineta Diop. Hopefully, her initiatives and commitment will serve as an example and encourage other African countries to follow the same path for the well-being and empowerment of women.
