Article: “The impact of the war between Hamas and Israel on the Palestinian population”
Since the start of the conflict between Hamas and Israel, the Palestinian population in the West Bank has experienced a real tragedy. The disastrous consequences of this war particularly affect children, who are the main victims of this endless violence.
Fadi Quran, campaign director of the NGO Avaaz, testifies to the suffering of Palestinians in the face of this war. Living in the West Bank has become a real ordeal for many of them. The horror of the images coming from Gaza, with children killed every 15 minutes, plunges the Palestinian population into deep distress. Support from civil society is crucial to ending this conflict and saving the region’s children.
The situation is all the more difficult for Palestinians in Gaza, who live in extremely precarious conditions due to the blockade imposed by Israel. Many of them are stranded in the West Bank, separated from their loved ones in heartbreaking conditions. Families are torn apart, mothers and children live in anguish and helplessness as violence continues to escalate.
Faced with this tragedy, Fadi Quran calls for a change in leadership. He believes that neither Hamas nor Fatah can claim to represent the Palestinian people and calls for democratic elections to choose leaders capable of liberating Palestine. He thus hopes to put an end to collaboration between the Palestinian Authority and Israel.
The current situation is more than worrying. According to diplomatic sources, Israel plans to kill between 25,000 and 35,000 Palestinians and displace 10 to 15% of Gaza’s population permanently. This prospect is terrifying and raises fears of ethnic cleansing or even genocide. The international community must react quickly to avoid this humanitarian catastrophe.
Despite everything, Fadi Quran remains optimistic and offers a ceasefire scenario for children. He suggests the release of children held by Israel in exchange for that of children held hostage by Hamas. It also calls for the creation of safe zones for children and a humanitarian corridor in Gaza. Such an initiative would put an end to the suffering of children and preserve their innocence in this period of chaos.
It is time for civil society to take a stand and put pressure on respective governments to end this endless war. Only collective mobilization can contribute to the achievement of a lasting ceasefire and the search for a peaceful solution for the Palestinian population.
Everyone’s commitment is essential to change the course of events and finally offer a better future to the children suffering from this senseless war.. The time has come to make our voices heard and support the Palestinian cause, in order to preserve the innocence of children and build a world of peace and justice.
